SURREY CRICKET BOARD

Member clubs of the Surrey Cricket League must be affiliated to their County Board. Affiliation to the Surrey Cricket Board (SCB) is £10.00. Some of the benefits of affiliation are:

·          Access to various SCB and ECB funding opportunities including Lord’s Taverner’s, Grant Aid and the opportunity to achieve Community Amateur Sports Club status

·          Information on Colts leagues and Colts competitions

·          Access to database of ECB qualified coaches

·          Support for clubs wishing to achieve Club Mark accreditation, including Child Welfare guidance

·          Free membership to the Surrey Cricket Groundsman’s Association

·          Opportunity to enter ECB and SCB club competitions including the Cockspur Cup (national club knock-out) and the indoor six-a-side competition, both with finals played at Lord’s

FRIEND OF SURREY CRICKET

Any SCB affiliated club may become a Friend of Surrey Cricket (FOSC) for an annual membership fee of £120.  FOSC offers the following benefits in addition to those of the SCB:

·         Priority booking for Internationals at the Brit Oval

·         Free access (max 5 per day) to all Liverpool Victoria County Championship matches, NatWest Pro40 matches, and group stage matches of the Friends Provident Trophy (FPT) at the Brit Oval and cricket festivals

·         20% off Twenty20 Cup regional matches (booked in advance and not in conjunction with any other early bird offer)

·         Invitation to bring 30 under 16s (and 6 adults) to one day of either a Liverpool Victoria County Championship, FPT or NatWest Pro40 match (group stage only)

SURREY CRICKET GROUNDSMAN ASSOCIATION

The creation of the Surrey Cricket Groundsman’s Association (SCGA) in 2003 has helped greatly to raise the profile of the groundsman and groundsmanship within Surrey. The SCGA has a number of members from clubs, schools and local authorities. Its overall aim is to work in partnership with appropriate individuals and agencies to develop both grounds and groundsmen in the county.

To join the SCGA costs only £10 a year (free to clubs affiliated to SCB) and the benefits include:

·         Invites to meetings/presentations/demonstrations including an annual conference

·         Information on courses

·         Support from the Pitch Advisory Team

·         Opportunities for club groundsman to be involved in a Mentoring Scheme

·         Access to machinery to aid end of season renovation work

The SCGA aims to support the work of the club groundsman so don’t miss out on any of the opportunities available.

SURREY CRICKET BOARD ASSOCIATION OF CRICKET OFFICIALS

The SCB ACO acts as an umbrella organisation for the five ECB ACO affiliated umpires’ and scorers associations within Surrey. The five affiliated associations are Farnham and District, West Surrey, East Surrey, Croydon District and the Surrey Championship Umpires Panel. The SCB ACO represent their members on the Surrey Cricket Board and organise dates of training courses for umpires and scorers across the county. The courses available are the ECB ACO Introduction to Umpiring Course (2.5 hour “mini clinic”), ECB ACO Level 1 (with optional exam), SCB ACO Intermediate Umpiring Course (an interim course until the new ECB ACO Level 2 course is available) and the ECB ACO Level 1 Scoring Course.

WOMEN’S CRICKET

Women and Girl’s cricket is an important part of Surrey’s Strategy. There is a pathway for players from the Playground to the Test Arena. Currently Ebony Rainford Brent and Nicky Shaw from Shepperton CC are part of the England’s Women’s Squad embarking to Australia for the World Cup.

There are currently 19 women and girl’s clubs across Surrey who can offer opportunities for people to become involved. These can be found on www.surreycricket.com.

There is a County Squad Programme for U11, U13, U15, 1^st X1 and an Emerging Players Programme which mirrors the programme for boys. For more information contact David Court dcourt@surreycricket.com.

SAFEGUARDING

This is a subject that is rapidly growing and affecting the way our cricket clubs manage themselves. The Safe Hands Policy on the Welfare of Young People can be found on the ECB website www.ecb.co.uk/ecb/child-welfare/safehands,445.BP.html. If you have any concerns or questions, contact the County Welfare Officer, Heidi Langrish, at cwo@surreycricket.com.

Each club must appoint a welfare officer who must be CRB checked and undertake the Safeguarding of Young People and Time to Listen courses. In addition, the following club officers must be CRB checked:

·   Team captains

·   Umpires

·   Scorers

·   Coaches

·   Managers

·   Helpers who work with children

Robin Ford, League General Secretary, is a CRB verifier and is available to process CRB checks.

SURREY COACHES ASSOCIATION

One year on from our first report I am pleased to say that the ECBCA Surrey has made a great start on its mission to become the most innovative County Coaches Association in the Country. We have organised two major workshops with more than 100 of our members attending. The last workshop based on the winter training theme of “Not Just Nets” also saw our President, Ian Salisbury, giving an insight into training spin bowlers at the elite level and give an explanation of how coaches at all levels of the game can use the same principles to improve their spinners and teams. Most recently a small number of our members have been invited to attend a couple of Surrey First Team training sessions at the Brit Oval.

We have also published newsletters containing drills and tips and in-depth interviews with elite level coaches and have also audited our current members and schools across Surrey. On a commercial front, the ECBCA Surrey Committee has negotiated a deal to purchase the Inspired Cricket training manual at a significant discount for our members. During 2010 we hope to announce further discounts on major brand training equipment that only our members will be able to take advantage of.
